African Tribal Art & Indian Warli Paintings

AFRICAN  ART
The human figure has always been the primary concern and subject matter for most African Art and this emphasis even influenced certain European traditions. For example, in the 15th century Portugal traded with the Sapi culture near the Ivory coast in west Africa , who created elaborate ivory saltcellars that were hybrids of African designs, most notably in addition of human figure. The human figure may symbolize the living or dead , may refer to chiefs, dancers or various trades such as drummers or hunters or even may be an anthropomorphic representation  of a god.
Another common theme is the inter morphosis of human and animal The beauty of African art is simply an element of its function , for these objects would not be effective if they were not aesthetically pleasing

Warli paintings

In warli paintings ,the theme chosen by the artists are mainly from nature.Harvest is one of major themes. One other very popular theme is that of wedding festival .The subject found in these paintings are fields swaying with healthy crops, birds flying high in the sky, group dancing around a person playing the music, dancing peacock , women cooking or busy in their house chores.
